The Crucible is a community development organization in Oakland, California which inspires creativity, material re-use, team-building, and problem-solving, all while teaching occupational skills. This small group of artisans and activists transforms their community through classes and workshops in welding, blacksmithing, foundry & mold-making, woodworking, machine shop, motorcycle & bike repair, stonework, neon & light, kinetics, jewelry & enamel, fire performance, and clay animation. Founded in 1999, the Crucible’s unique programs serve more than 5,000 young people and adults every year.
